A talk sponsored by our neighbor and partner Seward Park Library:
The Seward Park branch of the New York Public Library opened on November 11th, 1909. To celebrate 110 years of service to the Lower East Side, Librarian Andrew Fairweather will give a lecture that reveals the fascinating history of this neighborhood institution—focusing on the earliest years of the branch from 1909-1959 (before completion of the Seward Park Cooperative houses), this lecture will tell a story that places the Seward Park library’s commitments in context with greater trends in urban public library service, charting shifts in philosophy during the fifty year period.
